The integration with the latest update will allow Instagram users to chat with Facebook Messenger users and vice versa.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had last year announced plans to create a unified backend for the world’s three largest social messaging networks – WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger. This integration will allow users to chat between the three social platforms seamlessly. Mark Zuckerberg has also expressed his desire for the cross-platform messaging system to be end-to-end encrypted.
The most recent report from ‘The Verge’ says, Facebook appears to have begun the process of integrating Instagram and Facebook Messenger chats. The new update has launched in USA with several users having access to it, which will be noticed on both Android and iOS devices. Users might see a pop-up upon opening the Instagram mobile app that says, “There’s a New Way to Message on Instagram”. The new update on Instagram brings along four major features “new colorful look for your chats, more emoji reactions, swipe-to-reply,” and the big one: “chat with friends who use Facebook.”
Once you update the app, the regular DM icon in the top right corner of Instagram will be replaced by Facebook Messenger logo. For now, the option to merge Instagram with Facebook Messenger is optional and users can choose to decline the update.
WhatsApp is soon expected to allow users to sync their chats across platforms and will enable multi-device login as well. Facebook services will remain intact and will all continue to operate as standalone apps on your phone, and these technical changes were made so all apps can work more seamlessly with one another.
