Engaging with customers just got easier with the new button added to business pages that takes you to product catalogs.
"Now you can easily discover something you'd like to buy from your favorite business by tapping on the new shopping button at the top of chats." WhatsApp stated in a statement.
The Facebook-owned messaging platform announced on Tuesday the new shopping button in WhatsApp chat will be accessible globally, to help people check out available products and make purchases right from a chat.
Previously users had to click into the business profile to see if the business had a catalog. The tool will now make it easier for users to discover business catalog, so they understand the list of goods and services. Once the business has set up a product catalog, you can tap the button to view it. You will then be able to chat to the business if anything catches your eye. The button will be placed where the voice call button used to be— a single call button will instead have options for both voice and video calls.
The addition of a dedicated shop tab is very much important and will help to expand shopping behavior in the app as well.
WhatsApp has a huge audience base of around 2 billion active users across the world, presenting a significant opportunity for many brands across many regions, and if it can make in-stream shopping more habitual, that could present a range of opportunities for businesses within the app.
Moreover, WhatsApp is not as big as Messenger in Western markets, anyhow, it is still considerable, and additions like WhatsApp shopping button is worth keeping as it will further help ease the shopping experience in the app. Major additions like this will help overall evolve the app into a much broader connective tool.
