YOUTUBE LAUNCHES NEW HASHTAG SEARCH RESULTS PAGES

YouTube has launched a new dedicated search results page that will let users find videos by using hashtags.

YouTube introduced the feature to search videos by hashtags in 2018 but it never worked perfectly, since the search included content using the hashtag and other related content that didn’t contain the hashtag.

Now, anyone searching for a specific hashtag on YouTube, either on desktop or mobile app, will see a new dedicated page that only contains videos with the hashtag, which are sorted to keep the best videos at the top. Users can navigate through these pages by clicking on the automatically generated hashtags that pop up during the search. They will be taken to the new section that shows the number of videos that have used the hashtag, and the number of channels which have uploaded content tagged with it.

Not only is this information interesting from a curiosity standpoint, but it can be useful to marketers and content creators. For example, if you’re trying to measure the popularity of a topic on YouTube, you could look up the hashtag and get an idea of how much content is out there. Data from the new hashtag pages may further assist with YouTube keyword research strategies.

YouTube says it will continue to make updates to hashtags in the future, which is good to know because many updates are needed. As far as search results pages go, YouTube has a long way to reach the algorithm that Twitter and other social networks have, that pioneered hashtag search.
